Alfred Wolanin, MD is a comprehensive ophthalmologist. He completed his undergraduate education at Villanova University and following college he served as a Marine Officer completing two combat deployments to Iraq. He left active duty to pursue the medical field and graduated from Drexel University College of Medicine. Following medical school, Dr. Wolanin completed his internship at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. He went on to study flight medicine and served in that capacity at the United States Naval Academy for two years. Dr. Wolanin went on to his residency in ophthalmology and graduated from Naval Medical Center San Diego. Since then, he served at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and Naval Medical Center Portsmouth.
Dr. Wolanin enjoys all aspects of comprehensive ophthalmology with a particular interest in cataracts, refractive surgery, and ocular trauma. He is a member of numerous professional organizations and often teaches ophthalmology to medical students and those practicing primary care.
Dr. Wolanin appreciates everything the Hampton Roads area has to offer since moving here. When not in patient care, he spends time with his wife and three children. He enjoys the arts, cinema, traveling, a variety of outdoor activities, and volunteering at church and his children’s schools.
